Let's start the week with a little sanity: I'd like to draw your attention to erin_starlight's livejournal entry from earlier last week, "Skimming the DC boards for BG, TMVP, and a little JLGL." Erin does a lot of what I don't do: speculation and editorializing on specific elements of the adventures of Booster Gold. (Well, ok, I do a little. I try not to, but you can't not have an opinion when you run a site like this. Plus, I'm easily excitable, so I tend to avoid the DC boards.)
In her recent post, she addresses several issues regarding Booster's recent publications including the identity of Rip Hunter's mother, Rani's destiny, and Ice's retconned past. I'm not saying that I agree with everything that she has said, but I appreciate that she is brings a knowledgeable and rational mind to discussing the talking points of the day. I think she makes some good points. Thanks, Erin.

I WANT MORE RIP-MOMMY INFO!!!!! PG would be amazingly humerous to see with Booster, just because, well, damn, it's hard to explain lol. As for the later comment about Canary and Supergirl? I have a friend who is a HUGE BC fan, and I have joked with her in the past about Dinah being Rip's mommy lol, and I have personally wondering what if Kara had a crush on Booster, that it would be a bit adorable....Either way, MORE INFO, MUST KNOW!!

I feel somewhat insulted. She quoted me A LOT, as I'm CONSTANTLY on the kick about Rip's mom being Power Girl, and attempted to knock my opinion down with the little "I'm not even sure how to comment to the rest of this." As if writers don't retcon anything they want, or do I have to pull out that issue of Generation Lost that just passed?

Don't take it personally, PowerShot, it's just an opinion. Those of us who embrace character continuity don't generally want to see it revoked for any reason, including an historically improbable love interest. True, it happens all the time (Wonder Woman and Superman, Zatanna and Batman), but that doesn't mean we have to be in favor of it. Just because something can be retconned doesn't mean that we should support the change if it appears inauthentic to us.
Personally, I happen to understand and share Erin's reluctance to embrace the fact that Hunter is secretly Kryptonian (or Atlantean or whatever Power Girl is supposed to be these days). Sure Power Girl's continuity is so damaged that anything appears to be possible with the the character these days. (Her history is about as f'd up as Hawkman's.) And Rip Hunter's character also appears to be in flux at the moment. (What's his birth name? Where did he go to school? Does he really have a cousin named Dan?) It is true that stranger things have happened, and with Winick at the helm, even stranger things will happen next. But Rip Hunter's and Power Girl's combined published histories don't appear to make the connection very likely.
If you want to continue lobbying for a Booster Gold-Power Girl love connection, it's certainly your right as a fan. And you can certainly continue to use boosterrific.com as a forum. But be prepared for some opposition from fans who may have a different point of view. (I'm pretty sure that arguing about interpretation of comic book characters is a vital part of the industry. I've never been in a comic book shop when two people weren't arguing about their pet theories, and I'm pretty sure that this is exactly what the internet was made for.)

Boosterrific - I completely understand the point you make! The retcon on Ice did not bother me because I was not familiar with the character prior to reading the humorous JLI miniseries sequels, but for someone who is, I understand the upset feelings. It's frustrating to go through a retcon on a character. And while I have no problem with people not agreeing with me, I don't much care for the little quips, whether minor or major.
Given what happens with comics these days, any and all facts can be thrown out the window (whether justified or not), and I feel anyone's point is just as plausibly valid as the next, barring any opinions out in left field like "Booster Gold is really Superman in disguise," and even then, who knows what DC will do with the character 10 years from now (though do I really have to say "I hope not"? lol)
Despite my feelings, I've already bookmarked her website, as it is still an intelligible source of Booster Gold that I so crave each week. My firefox homepage, however, is STILL set to boosterrific.com. :)

Fair enough. Just so long as you have your priorities straight. )

BoosterPowershot: Sorry if I insulted you. I tend to overanalyze things especially Booster Gold lore. I can't even remember how many metas I've done. I LIKE the idea of Power Girl/Booster, don't get me wrong. I could actually see it working far better than other pairings. I just don't want her to be the mother. That's more due to the fact that I've read a lot of Rips' Pre-BG vol.2 material and meshing Rip with her history just doesn't work for me. I picked the quotes that make me think meta thoughts about the book or opposing ideas that intrigue me. The bit about not knowing how to comment? That has to do with the my own confusion with what you were trying to say which I didn't get at the time of writing it. I suppose I didn't word it right. If you want I'll take it down but sometimes I just write the spur of the moment thoughts since I really don't expect many people to read my LJ. So I usually write out those things since it helps me with other projects. Sorry again for offending you, I wasn't trying to belittle you or your theories. No disrespect intended.

No, no, please don't worry about it. I was rather irrational! As I said, I've bookmarked your site because I can't get enough Booster Gold discussion!

I suppose we all get passionate when talking about Booster. I know that very few characters or fandoms have gotten me to rant or rave like this one. Well in that case feel free to join in the next BG talk, although I'll be getting my books a little late due to other engagements. I love talking about the books. And even though I might be a little ranty I still love hearing opinions even if they differ from mine.
