Haven't picked it up yet. Saw the preview, and I am curious. Although it appears that the story is pretty serious compressed (as you might expect under the circumstances.

Certainly, in the issue Giffen/DeMatteis tried to wrap up some storylines they felt should go longer. It is clear that the G/D stories end here, with entirely new plot threads to come from Dan Jurgens. The issue certainly feels simultaneously rushed and truncated. As someone who was very excited when G/D took over the book (I still think issues 32 & 33 in particular show great promise that never really materialized), I feel disappointed that so many of the Giffen/DeMatteis plots and subplots had to be resolved/abandoned with so little payoff.

The Gold Exchange is running a little behind, as my LCS FAILED TO ORDER A SINGLE COPY OF THIS ISSUE. Grr. I have to wait until at least tomorrow when I can steal away for an hour to a bigger store farther from here.

Wow. Does your LCS know that they have the author of the Gold Exchange shopping at their store? It seems wrong that you can't have your BG on time. ;)

More importantly: a LCS that orders NO copies of BOOSTER GOLD? How do they stay in business? I'd say we should boycott them, but they're taking care of that on their own!

I am afraid there is not too much to discuss and I am not the best for recaps. The issue tries to provide closer to a story line that was likely to have run for several issues.

I would have liked to see an extend arc exploring BG's relationship to the LoSH and Brainiac 5 in particular. I think there are a few nice character moments in this story, that is essentially "Brainy cures Booster of Chronal Leprosy". I wish they had gotten to this sooner. Turns out the the Perforated Man story was a complete one-shot (basically).

It is not that I have had a problem with any of the plot lines open and explored by KG/JMD, it is that the characterizations of the supporting cast have been so different from what I was comfortable with. While the basis for a great story is contained in this issue, I will be happy to get the Rip and Michelle that I know back.

As is, I enjoyed this issue. Read it a couple of times. It doesn't blow the doors off the hinges, and is super compressed, but not bad. It is tempting to be dissapointed in the lost potential of this run and hold it against this issue, but I find my excitement for Dan's return trumps that and allows me to enjoy this creative team's farewell (even the meta jab at the end!).
