DC came out with the "new 52" as a way to get new readers but they missed the whole point. I bought my first comics in a drug store when I was 12 (25 years ago), looking today you can't find comics anywhere other than comic shops and many smaller towns don't have comic shops, so how do they plan on getting any new readers?
Instead of trying ideas that didn't work the first time around why not try looking at their business as a business. Want new readers? Make your product available to more people! It really is that simple and has worked for every other product in the world. Anyway, back to the original question.........
Where did you buy your first comic books?

The first place I recall regularly buying comic books was the Sing Food Store on Redan Road in Stone Mountain, Georgia. It was a typical gas-station convenience store. The comics were mixed in with the rest of the magazines on a 2-tier rack on the back wall of the store. (The comics were kept on the front of the bottom row.) I bought comics from that gas station for years, memorably including every issue of CAPTAIN CARROT AND HIS AMAZING ZOO CREW and most of the short-lived "Star" line from Marvel comics. I know for a fact that's where I bought the entire first run of BOOSTER GOLD.

I should note that while I think of that store fondly because of the comic books, it also introduced me to banana-flavored Icees, something that I really wish I could un-taste.

I'm sure that I bought comics before that store (several Dell/Gold Key Disney books from spinner racks here and there over the years), it was the first place that I bought comics on a weekly basis. I didn't discover comics specialty stores until I was in high school.

A comic book store not to far away from where I live...that closed about a year ago. My sister took me there and got me into some Marvel books. Now I read DC.

of any kind? hard to say, I was reading Uncle $crooge, Casper, Hot Stuff etc as a little kid and probably got most at the grocery store.

First superhero comic is easy though - the first superhero comic I bought was Emerald Dawn #1 at the Books A-Go-Go in Laramie Wyoming.

At a Rexall drug store (there weren't any comic book stores then) up the street from where we lived in the Chicago area. At the time, my Mom was working as a cashier there and started bringing home comics to me every week when the new ones came in. The first one was "Amazing Spider-Man" #124 the introduction of Man-Wolf, a two-parter, I was hooked. I had other comics when I was younger, mostly ones that my Grandfather got for me at the local newsstand (Superboy was a favorite of his), but that Spider-Man comic was the one that got me collecting (thank you Gerry Conway, Gil Kane and Ross Andru)
(Oh and Mom, can't forget Mom).
