Just speculating and thinking here: She could be a former teammate of Ted's and was trying to find a way to honor him after his death, much the same way Ted honored Dan Garrett. I never read the entire Blue Beetle series so I have no idea who knew his identity but with Jaime appearing as the new Blue Beetle this mystery girl had to choose another color. Since Blue beetle was originally on another Earth Pre-Crisis this character could be from one of the other Post-52 (good grief) Earths and was transported here much like the Kingdom Come Superman. In the end I hope it's Trixie trying to get Booster's attention (I can hope can't I?)

in the sourcblog there is a preview for an upcoming JSA title which has yet another shot of the new Red Beetle but at least in the preview we again learn nothing of the character, link to the pic (as it is a preview, beware of spoilers) http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2011 ... v2-504.jpg

Has she had any interactions with anyone? Every panel I see of her so far has her in the backround. I know they want to keep it a secret but is anyone on the team questioning why she's wearing that outfit? Yes the JSA is about legacies but given one of their 'recruits' turning out to be a villain in disguise that almost killed one of their members you'd think they'd be more careful.

as far as I can tell no, at least in the last issues which I skimmed at my LCS. From the current one I did only read the preview and at the moment all the comics I read are being released digital (including Booster next month), and going to the shop just to flip through a comic I don't want to buy seems a bit wrong.
Of course I am interested in any character connected to Ted, but so far there has been nothing beyond a few background appearances which could have been easily replaced with any other character...and that is not worth the price to buy a full comic to me (I would otherwise not read anyway)

I still think it's either related to an upcoming Black Beetle arc or just Flashpoint...

I could see Flashpoint but I was under the impression that Black Beetle had no connection to this.

I meant, the Black Beetle & the Red Beetle - since Black is trying to collect various scarabs. (Hey?! Shouldnt they be called in fact... Blue/Black/Red Scarab?? first time it occured to me)
...not the Black Beetle and Flashpoint... though writing this made me think.. and why not?? Is Flashpoint related to the Flashes AND the Black Beetle?? (that would be a surprising unexpected twist!)

In Justice Society of America #50, the Red Beetle's name is revealed as Sara Butters. Doesn't ring a bell with me. What about anyone else?

Sounds new to me. Wikipedia didn't help me find a connection. Maybe the backstory will come up with a connection that pieces it all together?

Yeah, I've seen that name to. Seems like a brand new original character. (the "real name", not the whole Beetle-thing going-on)
At first I thought it was Danni Garrett, Dan's granddaughter, a recurring Jaime Reyes characters...but nope..
