I figure every good comic based forum should have a discussion of comic movies and what people think of them, that said, I just saw Green Hornet, and I thought it was pretty good, not great mind you as there were some noticeable flaws, but overall it was good, fun and entertaining, especially the last half. the action is great, though the editing gets in the way sometimes, sometimes all you need for a fight scene to be awesome is good choreography, adding cg effects all over the place is distracting and unnecessary, other than that it was satisfying action and great car based action, if you like super cars with hidden guns and weapons all tricked out in every possible nook and cranny, then you'll have fun with the action. as far as acting goes, if you like Seth Rogan, you'll like him in this, he's believable and really pretty much comic relief to Kato's badassedness. Kato is a little hard to understand from time to time due to his heavy accent, but he is a perfect straight man to Rogan's off the wall persona. Christof Waltz is great as the bad guy, he's quirky but a little one-dimmensional, effective as a bad-guy, but his choice of weapon is slightly ridiculous. Cameron Diaz is pretty good, nothing special though. overall the the first half is pretty slow, but once the action starts its a fun movie. the plot is somewhat cliched and unoriginal, but what movie isn't anymore? overall I give it 6/10, a solid rental unless you really enjoy Seth Rogan, in which case see it now.

How is 6/10 a "solid rental"? Shouldn't that make it just slightly above average? In my book, that's something that you should watch if you get the chance, but not something that you should make a special trip to the Red Box for.

But then, I stopped going out to movies years ago. I love movies, but paying $15+ for <90 unsatisfying minutes of people screaming into their cell phones over hearing-damagingly loud THX sound effects lost it's allure about the time I discovered HDTV.

I couldn't be bothered to rush out and see a film unless it was a 10/10. And even then probably not until it came out on DVD. So I guess I'm saying just never mind me.

the way I see it, 10 is perfect, its rare and there are very few movies that are that good, drop everything to see a 10
9 is great, its near perfect or rather its flaws are slight and easily overlooked, see a 9 at your earliest convenience
8 is really good, the flaws are noticeable but easily dismissed, see this at some point in theaters, not necessarily opening weekend
7 is good, there are some plot holes or other flaws that can ruin it if you have an eye for that kind of thing, but the rest of the movie makes up for it, go see this if there is nothing else good in theaters and you really want to watch a movie
6 is pretty good, the plot holes and other flaws are noticeable to any movie goer of relative intelligence (not saying your stupid if you miss something, I'm just saying the flaws are obvious) however it is still enjoyable. you could watch it in theaters, but you won't miss anything if you wait for it to be on dvd
5 average, no great acting, no horrible acting, or at least it balances out, there are definite flaws, but can be enjoyed if you turn your brain off, basically forgettable rent if you want, but its missable
4 pretty bad, a few redeeming qualities, but otherwise not worth paying to see, can be fun if you watch it with friends, but on tv
3 bad, not much saving it, its not good at all, but it is watchable, watch on tv, but only if nothing else is on
2 really bad, sometimes so-bad-its-good, but only if you like bad movies, otherwise avoid unless you are curious, or bored
1 terrible, no redeeming value, avoid at all costs few if any movies this bad are ever in theaters, and never for long. seriously, porn has better acting, fanfics have better writing, and student films have better production quality, its beyond so-bad-its-good, it is so-bad-its-bad, you will regret any time you wasted in watching a movie this bad.

that's my thinking in a rating scale format, its not precise, but more or less its the reasoning behind the number I give a movie given more time I could think of a movie to represent each number, and I may do that later

Hmm. I think given your list, I only make an attempt to see movies that you would rate 8, 9, 10, or 2. That said, I look forward to your examples.

I think most movies are about 3-8, 9s are uncommon and 10s are rare 2s and lower are rarely in theaters
