According to the DC website it's still coming out this week. When the last issue was delayed, as well as Time Masters, they changed the date.

I gotta say, the preview has me a bit intrigued. KG has an odd story telling structure on this run.

The Perforated Man kind of reminds me of Agrajag from HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY.

I get the Agrajag similarity now that you mention it, but I never would have seen that if you hadn't pointed it out, Russ. For some reason (the Jurgens connection? having just read Captain Atom in GENERATION LOST), I immediately thought of Waverider.
I'm not nuts about this issue. It all still seems too contrived, including the bizarre DOUBLE INDEMNITY introduction that I feel robs it of some of the potential drama.

Here is the problem with this issue:
The fact that Rip still exists and that we've seen Booster's future ruins the drama of this issue. There are tons of wonderful concepts here: A villainous character who isn't villainous, he's just being driven mad due to fate. The chrono disease. Meeting up with your future self. Each one of these would have been very, very interesting. Especially he chrono disease...I would have LOVED for that to just by itself been an arc...Booster getting that sickness and Michelle, Daniels and Rip forced to work together to find the cure. The Perferated Man could have been a wonderful villain...his motive could have been that he is trying to destroy time in the hopes of ending his suffering, becoming something like the Cyborg Superman.
But when you mix them all together...you get gunk.
Especially since we know Booster will be ok. He is cured...he returns to his own time without sores. Everything works out.
Personally, I would have either broken up all of these into 3 seperate arcs, or at least only done two, with a new twist thrown in. Imagine, for example, if the Perforated Man had unmasked himself and said: "Don't you understand...I'm your son".
Instantly we get the questions and the intrigue. Is it Rip? Another child? is it a lie?
They could have made it Ted. Or Daniel. They could have made him a woman and made it Rani or Michelle. But making it Booster weakened what could have been a very, very good issue.

I strongly suspect that the unfocused and confused story in issue 42 is a result of the sudden change in creative teams. No longer could Giffen and DeMatteis pace their story ideas out as they would have wanted, so they tried to cram it all in the little time left to them. Anyway, I prefer that theory to thinking that two writers I admire just couldn't write a coherent story.

I had a very different reaction to this story. I went into the issue just trying to sit back and enjoy. It is more compressed storytelling, but I didn't find it incoherent. Plot holes? Maybe. Could it have been stretched out and taken in different, more complex directions? Sure. But I was fine with what was presented (surprisingly given my recent complaining). I found the pathos of the Perforated Man's dilemma to be compelling enough to entertain me without the need for suspense or uncertainty of outcome.
Go figure.
