The following might be considered a bit of a spoiler, but since it is about an issue that apparrantly will never see the light of the day I think we can do with the tags.

Several months ago there was a solicit for a Booster Gold issue (I think scheduld for sometime around end of 2010) which showed Booster carring a blond woman from an explosion and the summary read (based on my memory):

Booster Gold has to decide, will he go after evidence of the existance of Max Lord, save Ted Kords live...or go on a Date with a Super Model? And Since this is Booster we are talking about I think we all know the answer.

Yet this issue was never released. Did DC change their plans and nixed this issue (possible as a reaction to the criticism the current team faced), or had the “back-to-the-JLI” arc to be cutted short due bigger plans (Flashpoint, GL etc)...or did I just imagine this solicit and it never existed in the first place?

The solicit that you are discussing was for October 2010. It was a Kevin Maguire-drawn image of Booster rescuing an unidentified woman. I don't know why the published issue was changed from the solicitation, but I do know that there was an editorial shake-up that month (which is the likely culprit). The solicit read:

BOOSTER GOLD #37
Written by KEITH GIFFEN & J.M. DEMATTEIS
Art by CHRIS BATISTA and RICH PERROTTA
Cover by KEVIN MAGUIRE
Continually leaping from yesterday to today, Booster Gold finds himself conflicted between reliving happier times with Ted Kord and chasing Max Lord in the present. Is it getting to be too much for our time-spanning hero? Will he pull it together in time to help his friends in the JLI? Or will he spend all of his copious free time rescuing super-models from near-death explosions? Well, this IS Booster Gold, after all…
On sale OCTOBER 13, 32 pg, $2.99 US

I'm wondering if that issue never changed, they just changed the cover.

Because, if you change the cover but keep the summary...it kinda fits.

But if the entire story was scrapped...what was so bad in it that we got instead a story about an alien woman wanting to rape Booster?

While I doubt it would be resolved in this issue, I bet it would have fueled the speculations regardings Rip's mother. (If we should ever learn her identidy it won't be in a book by JMD. )

edit:

Oh and I forgot, thanks for the Info about this "missing" Issue. Does this happen often in Comics? I guess it is normal that issues get lost due a run being cancled or cut short, but what looks like a finished (or mostly finished) book not being released? That does sound quite a bit more unusal.

No, it's really quite common. (Or at least it used to be, before this modern era of decompressed storytelling.)

It is common practice for editors to stockpile a reserve of finished stories (script, art, & ink) as filler material in case an artist misses a deadline. That way a book can go to press on time even if the scheduled story has fallen behind. (DC and Marvel especially have traditionally been very, very serious about deadlines.) Think of it as a safety net. Sometimes the filler is used for an advance solicitation when the real plans are not ready or a deliberate misdirection is necessary. Sometimes the filler replaces original work that for whatever reason was deemed unready or unworthy for print.

When there is an editorial change on a book, it is very common to see sudden changes from advance solicitations. The new editor may want to make a change in the direction of a title, including artists and covers as the new editor changes the direction of a series to suit his desires.

In this case, it may be that the original plans for the book by Giffen/DeMatteis were derailed by a decision for Dan Jurgens to return, as Russ Burlingame has revealed in his latest "Gold Exchange" column.

This issue got a little mention during this month's Gold Exchange interview and (while it doesn't really come through in the printed version, as I had to edit for clarity) JM was unaware of this Maguire image and shocked that DC had an extra Kevin Maguire BG cover and never used it. My guess? It'll be the cover of the second volume of Keith and JM's trades.
