first short impression:
I..don't really like it. The whole issue was so..generic. Except maybe for guy you could have exchanged the whole team with different characters without it making much of a difference. It almost pains me to say but I am almost looking forward to a possible change of the writer...or at least Jurgens improving on his recent work.

*gasp* Don't say such things!
I found it a far, far better issue than issue 3, but as I was reading it, I thought that issues 3 and 4 could have certainly been combined into 1 issue with no significant loss in story, character development, or momentum.
Despite Gardner's disparaging comments, Booster really seems to be getting a push in the narrative as a "real" hero. That's fun!
I'll re-read it here in an couple of hours as I assemble the annotations, but my first impression is positive.

I liked it the least out of the four but there were still good moments. I liked that Ice and Godiva freed the team especially Godiva because it proves how useful her powers can be.
The twist with the big bad being in it for the profit amused me more than it should have.
I was a little bummed out to see Guy so down on Booster especially since they seemed to move past their differences prior to the relaunch. If Guy is challenging his leadership and the old JLI never happened does that mean it's Booster or Batmans' place to give the one punch?

Why do down, Erin? What about this issue bothered you? It is far better paced than the previous issue. There's plenty of setup for the finale, which is finally coming! Sure, it's a bit cliche, but there are several good character moments and a scene chewing villain! It's not great, but it's good enough.
Ice is beginning to look like far more of a powerhouse than in the past. I think this is mainly because of an attitude change more than a power change. Ice in the past was very mousy, but in the DCnU she brims with a new confidence. It's making me happy.
On the flip side, so far in this series Guy has been far less effective than anyone but Vixen. Booster has certainly proven far more effective. His fights with Peraxxus have to this point been pathetic. It's like all of a sudden, Guy has become Hal.

Morgenstern: It's not the same if a bad guy does it. This is strictly a leader role vs. Guy. Boosterrific wrote: Why do down, Erin? What about this issue bothered you? It felt rather short for one thing and the characters didn't get that many moments to shine. I didn't hate it but compared to the other issues it felt rather blah.
I'm not denying that Ice is getting more face time but this is the second time she got taken out of the fight. Not really a powerhouse yet, I like the confidence though.
Poor Guy, if only he knew he'd think it was a fate worse than death.

I am a bit surprised to hear that. While I agree somewhat on the change of attitude, she certainly does not look more powerful to me. Quite the contarry. She rather seems to be the first to go down. Got knocked down in issue 2, her team was the first one shown to get overrun by the rock-thingies and in the latest issue she is again the first one who goes down after they freed themselves.
One thing I did find positive that at least the premise for the finale seems to be more intersting than this issue...though the holes on earth were on the wrong spots and nowhere near the location described earlier.

@Erin: Booster one-punching Guy is fine with me...though I think we all can agree on that there is at least one Green Lantern who would deserve this "honour" far more than Guy.
And we seem to agree about Ice *g*

In the old JLI books, Ice was rather limited to simple ice walls and slides. The inability of the character to do much of anything on the team is indubitably part of why Mark Waid chose to kill her off in the first place.
Her new support role creating underwater vehicles and subverting traps that can hold the future-tech of Booster Gold qualifies as a power upgrade, even if she is the first taken out in a fight. She simply isn't a physical powerhouse, and that characterization is ok with me.
