Rip Hunter, on the other hand, does epic. He's like DC's 21st-century incarnation of the Phantom Stranger.

That's what makes Rip such a good supporting character. Unlike Booster, he sees the BIG picture and leads him into "epics", but it's hard to do that every month. Rip is a sort of guide and mentor, leading Booster to those points in time where his behind the scenes heroics can be most helpful. While Booster (the world's biggest showoff) has to do all of his heroing in secret without any accolades. We need a writer that can keep that relationship organic, not formulaic, and that calls for a good mix of personal and epic stories. Booster occasionally needs to pull back and look at the forest, not just the trees.

As the "secret" protector of the entire DC timeline, Booster's "stories" aren't epic, but his "story" is.

Fair enough.

That's a pretty tall order. Does DC have anyone on staff who can do that who isn't already tied to a bigger franchise?

Tough crowd. Ok, how about...

1. J.H. Williams - I like his work on Batwoman and he could draw BG too. I think he could do a new and interesting spin on the character

2. Tony Bedard - Has done well with the unenviable task of retelling the same BB origin story in the new 52, but does well and well in the new 20 page format and is likely soon to be available.

3. Andrw Kreisberg - If he can write a pilot, maybe he can do a monthly comic

4. Rick Remender - I liked the Starro/Lady Chronos Story, let him tell more BG tales. (I know, I know, he is Marvel exclusive now)

Why does it have to be either time cop or coperate crusader? Why not both? Have the Booster on the TV show have the same journey he had in the comics. Start with introducing him as a glory hound, then introduce other DCU characters (sure the big names won't fly, but luckily for Booster he has much history with the so called B & C listers) have him join a big, international team and eventual fall from grace to become a secret time cop.

Also the reason "epic" is the exception for Booster makes it so great the few times it does happen like in 52. If Superman saves the world it is nothing special..that's tuesday, but iof the fate of the world rests on Booster's shoulder..that can and might very well go wrong.

I agree with 99.9% of that concept. As for the .1%, I don't think Syfy will want to involve other DC characters (for licensing reasons), and by "big international team" I assume you mean other minor DC heroes like the JLI? I like the idea, I just think that much awesomeness is too much to hope for.

EXACTLY, couldn't have said it better myself. That uncertainty is what makes for good drama.

Considering how many guys did show up in the final seasons of smallville I would not be surprised if a few familiar faces would appear over time. I doubt that DC does have any big plans for Ice, Fire, Lord & co outside the comics. I certainly hope to see Ted and while the big blue is certain to be off limits..maybe Captain Marvel? And even if trhey can't get any of the "real" guys, they could simply make their own versions. Booster needs simply other heroes that he can be compared to. Without a caped community to look down on him it is simply not the same.

I honestly can't think of anyone at the moment, but my current reading list is pretty limited (note the older, more established writers I've already suggested).

The more I think of it, the more I like Eyz suggestion of a Johnny DC format book, if the alternative is a "based on the TV show" comic like "Smallville". A "DC's Adventures in Time with Booster" book could have a broad appeal if the show is family oriented (like Eureka), not so much if the show is aimed at a more mature audience.

I can't argue with that. I'd just feel more confident if the series was being developed for the CW (CBS and Warner Bros), they are better able to use established DC superheroes. Maybe if we're lucky, Syfy will pass on the series and CW will pick it up. Nothing against Syfy, just my idea of a "best" fit, in a "perfect" Booster world.

What about Gail Simone? She may best fit the bill for a BG solo author as you have describe? Isn't she only on Batgirl at this time?
