ISSUE DETAILS

Cover Description: This digital comic reuses an interior panel of Superman hovering in front of the sun as a "cover." (No Booster Gold.)

Brief Synopsis: Jimmy Olsen becomes personal photographer to new superhero Soar.

Booster Gold's role in this story:
Cameo (Booster Gold makes a minor appearance)

Costume Worn: MARK I.v2 power-suit

Issue Notes: This issue was released as a "DC Digital First" and has not been published in print as of January 2022. (Appearance noted by fabri24cr.)

Story Notes: This short, 8-page story is a character showcase for Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, in which his investigative journalism unmasks Metropolis's newest superhero, Soar, as a fraud. Jimmy was on the scene for Booster's debut in Booster Gold #1, making it even more obvious that the parallels between unethical, wannabe-hero Soar and Booster Gold are intentional. Like Soar, Booster Gold was motivated to make money off his good deeds in Booster Gold volume 1, and Booster hired a villain foil for himself in 52. Soar defeats the Royal Flush Gang, the same for-hire villains that Booster Gold defeated to earn Justice League membership in Justice League #4 (and Booster Gold volume 2). Even Soar's costume is similar to Booster's.

REVIEWS

Boosterrific Review: Because it is brief, this story gets to the point quickly, which sadly leaves too little time for any subtly. Otherwise, this is pretty interesting reading for Booster Gold fans who enjoy exploring the gray area between truly altruistic heroes like Superman and self-aggrandizing pretenders like Soar.
