ISSUE SUMMARY

Cover Description: While Batman, Blue Beetle II, and Booster Gold are prone and incapacitated, Martian Manhunter attacks H'ronmeer.

Brief Synopsis: The Justice League tries to protect Martian Manhunter from a Martian god.

Issue Summary: Martian Manhunter runs from his inner demons, trying to disguise himself as a human. Despite the ruse, Manhunter is found out by his pursuer. Still unsure whether he is merely hallucinating, Manhunter fights back, laying waste to a Chicago museum before fleeing.

Meanwhile, a mysterious man in Colorado is keeping track of the Manhunter's history.

When the Justice League International finally catches up to Manhunter, he has put himself into a state of suspended animation in orbit around the Earth. The JLI takes Manhunter to their Rome Embassy.

As Batman investigates Manhunter's situation, the individual members of the League are surprised attacked and defeated by Manhunter's nemesis, H'Ronmeer. When Mister Miracle decides to surrender Manhunter to H'Ronmeer, Manhunter again flees, this time to rural Colorado. Reveal Potential Spoilers

Page 18, panel 2
Inside the Rome embassy of the Justice League International, Blue Beetle II and Booster Gold discuss Martian Manhunter's apparent illness. Booster is more interested in his first trip to Italy than Manhunter's condition, though whether this is due to Booster's stated confidence in Manhunter's power or his own selfishness is up for debate.

H'ronmeer, the Martian god of light and life, introduces himself to Booster and informs Booster that he has come to take Martian Manhunter. Coming shortly after his encounter with the New Gods, Booster is suddenly on a first name basis with quite a few gods. Needless to say, Booster defends Manhunter as well as he can against a god.

ISSUE REVIEW

Boosterrific Review: The stylized, expressionistic art of Mark Badger is appropriate for this series' investigation of the inner turmoil of the Martian Manhunter. However, the loose art in this issue only adds to the confusion of whether the antagonists are real or imagined and results in a muddled and ultimately unsatisfying reading experience.
