ISSUE SUMMARY

Cover Description: In homage to the cover to Justice League #1, the Justice League International stands fully assembled. Included in alphabetical order are Animal Man, Batman, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Elongated Man, Fire, Flash, Guy Gardner, Ice, Martian Manhunter, Metamorpho, Mister Miracle, Power Girl, Rocket Red #4, and Wonder Woman. Over the masthead on the cover of this book, the Justice League is referred to as the "World's Greatest Non-Mutant Super-Hero™ Team!" This is a reference to the Uncanny X-Men, a team of Marvel mutant superheroes who have remained near the top of the sales chart since the early 1980s. Note that the word "Super-Heroes" is trademarked. Publishers DC Comics and Marvel Comics hold a joint trademark on that word.

Brief Synopsis: The Justice League's open house for superheroes is crashed by alien invaders.

ISSUE ANNOTATIONS

Page 1, panel 1
Booster Gold joins a number of heroes, some previous Justice League members, some future League members, at the open house organized by Oberon. Present are Animal Man, Atom, Batman, Big Barda, Blue Beetle II, Booster Gold, Creeper, Elongated Man, Fire, Firestorm, Flash III, G'Nort, Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, Hawkman II, Hawkwoman I, Ice, Major Force, Metamorpho, Mister Miracle, Power Girl, Rocket Red #4, Starman V, and Wonder Woman. Booster has met most of this crowd before, with the exception of Atom and the Elongated Man. (This is Booster's first chronologically published appearance with Elongated Man, though Elongated Man and Booster have appeared on-panel in other issues which, while published later, would indicate that they have met previously.) It is also the first time he has appeared on-panel with Major Force, though since they both appeared on the cover of Captain Atom #24, it can be assumed that they were both present at the meeting of Earth's superheroes at the beginning of Invasion! #2.

Booster, who to this point has been very accommodating of Hawkman's frequent outbursts, is finally offended when he is called a "foul-mouthed, immature misfit." It is unclear which part of this statement, exactly, has gotten Booster's dander up.

Page 14, panel 4
When the alien Khund invaders return to full size and break free of the traps that Oberon condemned them to in Justice League International #22, Booster leads the hero's charge against them. Booster is understandably furious at the aliens, since they were able to subdue so easily when last they met.

Page 14, panel 6
Hawkman quits the Justice League after only 5 issues as an active member. This is somewhat confusing, since it will later be revealed that he was a Thanagarian spy attempting to invade the League, but perhaps he had indeed seen enough. Though it is not shown, it is presumed that Hawkwoman quits as well.

ISSUE REVIEW

Boosterrific Review: At long last the ranks of the Justice League are swelling in prestige and power. This over-sized issue features back-to back stories exploring the League's recent past and near future with fantastic art by both Ty Templeton and Kevin Maguire. This certainly should be considered among the best of recent issues, which places it in very good company indeed.
