ISSUE SUMMARY

Cover Description: Captain Atom, Maxima, and Blue Beetle find themselves at the mercy of Monarch II. (No Booster Gold.)

Brief Synopsis: The Justice League responds to the arrival of Monarch II in New York City.

Issue Summary: Monarch has landed in New York City on the site of the former Justice League International headquarters. Believing Monarch to be his responsibility after their battles through time against one another, Captain Atom assembles his team and heads to New York.

When the team arrives at the scene, they find that Monarch has been healing the sick and has received the blessing of the United Nations. Former Justice League International liaison (and Captain Atom's ex-girlfriend) Catherine Colbert has been appointed as the U.N. representative to Monarch.

Monarch demonstrates his healing powers on a young girl. Captain Atom refuses to accept that Monarch is acting in good faith, although Booster Gold wonders if Monarch might not be able to free him from his life-support armor.

Captain Atom joins Blue Beetle and Firestorm in their civilian identities to sneak on board. The trio are unexpectedly joined by Atom's former romance, Plastique. The team has doubts about Plastique's loyalty, and are quick to blame her when Monarch uncovers their scheme. Reveal Potential Spoilers

Monarch and Captain Atom have been at each other's throats since the two were lost in time following the Armageddon 2001 mini-series. ISSUE REVIEW

Boosterrific Review: Writer Dan Vado works too hard to overcome the back-story of would-be world dictator Monarch in order to deliver a cliched story of self-righteous super heroes versus a formerly malignant villain-turned-benefactor. This book is salvaged from complete irrelevance and obscurity by a surprise ending that will no doubt please devout DC Universe fans.
